Colombo International Maritime and Logistics Conference in Sept.

Colombo International Maritime and Logistics Conference 2022 is scheduled to be held on 12 and 13 September at Cinnamon Grand Hotel, Colombo.

It would be one of the major conferences that would be held in Sri Lanka, after the COVID pandemic. The previous events which were held in Colombo, Mumbai, and Dhaka, attracted global participation, and was supported by many international organisations and governments, where Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and former Indian Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the multiday conferences.

In 2019, the last event was held in Colombo after the tragic Easter bombing, but Sri Lanka got enormous support from around the world to make a successful conference with over 400 participants.

CIMC Founder and Shippers’ Academy Colombo CEO Rohan Masakorala said, that given the tough economic conditions the country is going through, it is the need of the hour to promote the country’s strong areas. Even during COVID, Port of Colombo had been resilient. During the recent events too, Colombo Port has been functioning with maximum efficiency to support logistics of the region.

“We have had enough negative news, but we need to give the right picture on the sectors we are doing well as a country. We need to talk to our partners and business colleagues. Only way to do this is through proper communication and events. That is what I’m trying, just as we did in 2019,” said Masakorala.

“We have already got positive commitments from overseas friends that they would be supporting, participating, and visiting Sri Lanka at this crucial juncture. Many Sri Lankan organisations too have come forward to supports CIMC team looks forward to organising a great event at the sixth edition where topics from, maritime to logistics of the post-COVID world will be discussed, along with the maritime spaces of the Indian subcontinents and the future trends,” he added.

The event is expected to be a regional networking session, where different stakeholders of the maritime and the logistics industry will be gathering to develop partnerships and greater understanding of the future plans of the Indian subcontinent and beyond. Investment opportunities, information and data, project development of the region will also be discussed.
