Steen Knudsen - CEO, South Asia Gateway Terminal

mr steenColombo has long held a strategic position as a vital maritime gateway in the Indian Ocean, serving as a critical hub for global trade and transshipment. Its geographic advantage, combined with a strong legacy of operational excellence, has enabled Colombo to connect major East–West shipping routes and facilitate regional economic growth.

As we look ahead, the continued success of Colombo as a leading transshipment hub will depend on our collective ability to adapt and evolve. Future-proofing our port operations is no longer optional-it is essential. This requires a sustained focus on driving efficiency through technology, digitalisation, and process optimisation, while ensuring resilience in an increasingly dynamic global supply chain environment.

At the same time, strengthening Colombo’s position will require renewed efforts to attract international investment into port infrastructure. Expanding capacity, enhancing connectivity, and building modern, future-ready facilities will be critical to meeting the demands of next-generation shipping and logistics.

The Colombo International Maritime and Logistics Conference provides an important platform to deepen collaboration, exchange ideas, and accelerate action. By working together—across industry, government, and global partners—we can unlock the full potential of Colombo and secure its place as a competitive, sustainable, and future-ready maritime hub.
