Mr Chaminda Perera – Head of Cargo Srilankan Airlines
Mr. Chaminda Perera joined the airline in January 2022, bringing over 30 years of experience in the aviation industry, with strong expertise in cargo commercial strategy and ground handling operations.
He began his career at SriLankan Airlines before moving to Lufthansa and later China Airlines, where he led cargo sales and customer service operations. He then spent 16 years with Emirates, ultimately serving as Cargo Manager for Sri Lanka, before returning to SriLankan Airlines to take on his current role as the divisional head. Mr. Perera oversees the Airline’s Cargo Division, including cargo commercial strategy, cargo operations coordination and service delivery.
Under his leadership, the Cargo Division has undergone significant transformation, including the successful transition to a new Cargo Management System and the introduction of specialized product verticals such as Freshness, Wellness, Precious, and Guardian classes. He also led the achievement of IATA CEIV certification for Lithium Battery and Live Animal transportation.
Mr. Perera has driven the team to record its highest-ever cargo load factors, effectively navigating global and local challenges while capitalizing on market opportunities to meet targets. His leadership has also contributed to multiple industry awards for the airline’s cargo arm.
He holds MSc degrees in Aviation Management and Marketing, along with a Diploma in Transport, and was recently elevated to a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (FCILT).
